Peter Bull,Head of HSBC in the Community
HSBC is proud to have been working with Young Enterprise for over 25 years, supporting the annual Innovation Awards and providing financial, pro bono, secondee and volunteering support to the charity across the UK. Young Enterprise’s work fits in perfectly with HSBC’s global policy of supporting the education of young people.
Increasingly, when seeking opportunities for higher education or employment young people have to demonstrate that they have developed skills which will help them in their adult life beyond just academic qualifications.
Young Enterprise provides young people with the opportunity to develop these valuable skills particularly in the areas of team-working, leadership, problem-solving and communications - as well as an introduction to vital business skills.
Businesses want young people to grow into financially and business literate adults to be good potential customers and employees in the future. By working with education to help young people develop these skills businesses are increasing the viability and sustainability of their own business model into the future.
HSBC believes strongly in the benefits of encouraging their employees to volunteer under a variety of programmes - both for the beneficiary cause and the employees themselves. Volunteering makes a valuable additional contribution to how HSBC can help charities. It also develops team-working, leadership, presentation and a variety of other skills in the volunteer themselves. Importantly, it also motivates the volunteer and increases their self-esteem - all things which we believe benefits them in both their personal and professional lives.
