'Leap' into action - volunteer with Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise needs a small army of extra volunteers to help young people across the UK beat the threat of unemployment. And since 2012 is a Leap Year everyone has one more day - so why not donate it to the future of the next generation?

The media is awash with grim news about how well over a million young people aged between 16 and 24 are now unemployed. At the same time the bosses of Britain's biggest companies are constantly quoted saying young applicants for employment lack skills needed to hold down a job.

Yes, it's depressing reading. But can you do something to help? The answer is: yes you can.

Young Enterprise vital to save youth from British anti-business prejudice , MP tells Parliament

A senior MP has warned that only 'good schemes' like Young Enterprise are protecting students from the 'deep cultural' prejudice against business in Britain.

Tory MP Richard Harrington said it 'frightens' him that Government education policy forces 60,000 GCSE students each year do a theoretical course in 'business studies' - without ever learning anything about real business.

He said that pupils such as his own sons were obliged to learn about the technical difference between accounting systems in Britain and America - but not about buying and selling a real product.

The news comes as the number of people aged between 16 and 24 who are unemployed has increased by 52,000 during the last three months, hitting a staggering 1.04 million.
