Young Enterprise partners BT win Big Society Award from David Cameron
Prime Minister David Cameron has presented the Big Society Award to BT for its employee volunteering scheme in which BT staff contributed 49,000 days of their time to charities and community organisations last year.
Young Enterprise is one of the telecommunication giant's key partners. The time and work BT staff give to charities was valued at about 13.8 million pounds by Downing Street. BT staff have participated in Young Enterprise programmes such as the 'Enterprise Masterclass' and 'In Business with the Games.' BT Scotland has been working through the Empower Programme to give High School pupils the edge in a competitive jobs market.
Mr Cameron said: 'BT's employee volunteering scheme has quickly grown to provide millions of pounds worth of support to charities and community groups every year. This is invaluable for groups which would not be able to afford the type of skilled help BT staff provide.'

Volunteering with Young Enterprise is cheaper than management training
Volunteering with Young Enterprise is cheaper and better at boosting managers' skills than traditional training, says a hard-hitting report.

The average total cost to a company of allowing a single volunteer in London to work with Young Enterprise is 381 pounds a year according to the report by the City of London Corporation.
That compares to a bill of at least 400 pounds for the usual type of training - before the cost of lost work time and the salaries of Human Resources department staff are added, said the report entitled 'Volunteering - The Business Case'
