Volunteering for Accenture: What a success story!

Suzanne Fairbairn — 16 Feb 2012

I recently had the opportunity to volunteer for Accenture. What a success story!

I was teaching 8-9 year olds about how cities are formed! How transport routes are factors in where you site a new football stadium! It was brilliant. Never will you see a more willing or interactive audience. When I asked the class, “Who knows what a project manager does?” nearly all had their arms so far in the air I thought they may dislocate their shoulders!!! And bright! Crikee these kids are bright! They knew that Manchester City’s ground was moved because a new stadium had been created during the Commonwealth games – I didn’t know that…and they are nine!

Walking up to the staff room at dinner-time…(cue Jaws music, DerDunDerDun)... was ominous. Honestly felt like I shouldn’t be there, though had no idea why. I was sitting with the other teachers…constantly looking over my shoulder waiting for somebody to find me out!

It was a fantastic experience and my thanks go to Suzanne Fairbairn from the Young Enterprise group for giving me the opportunity.

You can find out more information on the Young Enterprise initiative here: http://www.young-enterprise.org.uk/ and Suzanne Fairbairn can be contacted on 07841 880996 and at suzanne.fairbairn@young-enterprise.org.uk

As a final comment. "Genuinely, guys, I could not recommend volunteering more strongly to you; what an experience, what a success story! And best of all, you can use your charity days too!"

Thanks go to David Adams of Accenture for this piece.
