Thomas Haworth, 20, from Accrington, who studies Business Management and Entrepreneurship, beat competition from hundreds of students from across the North West to take home the prize which recognises business talent.

Tom, nominated by Connie Hancock, Head of Programme, Head of P impressed the judges with his entrepreneurial endeavour, determination, motivational and leadership skills.

Head Judge, Tim Scott, Partner at principal event supporter DWF LLP, told the audience: “Fewer jobs, greater competition and greater expectations mean that it is essential that young people develop their commercial awareness, employability tools and entrepreneurial skills at an early stage.”

Tom, 20, clearly demonstrated these attributes and was able to walk away with the prize. His fellow Business Management and Entrepreneurship students cheered him on as he was presented with the trophy at Edge Hill University in front of a packed auditorium of hundreds of representatives from universities across the North West.

Tom said: “We’ve all worked so hard this year and it’s great to have this recognition. I’m really honoured to receive this award as I was well aware of the calibre of all of the finalists.”

All second year students on the Business Management and Entrepreneurship Programme form a company with a student Managing Director at the helm and other members taking key roles in order to gain experience of the business environment. Tom led his student company to significant success, winning great respect for his level of commitment and focused approach.

Connie Hancock said: “This is an award that Tom richly deserves for his boundless enthusiasm and team leading skills.”
