Academy’s Candolls scoop Young Enterprise award
Team won the ‘Best Sales and Marketing’ prize
Peterhead Academy’s Young Enterprise company Candolls won the ‘Best Sales and Marketing’ award at a recent Aberdeen event.
The event at Bon Accord shopping centre saw 22 companies from across Aberdeenshire come together.
The Candolls, started by a group of seven 17-year-olds from the school, were praised for their marketing skills.
Since September the company has designed, produced and sold a range of candles.
Mrs Joy Smith, the teacher overseeing the initiative at the school, said: “The judges were impressed with the way they presented themselves and their product to the customers.
“They were friendly and welcoming and this banner was a professional touch.”
Secretary Jemma Massie explained why the team signed up to the Young Enterprise project.
She said: “Last year’s company was such a big success, it made me think that this year was our shot.”
Though the academy’s companies have been growing in stature over the past four years, this is the first award won by a group from the school.
Investors who bought shares in Candolls have also all received a dividend.
The annual initiative, which runs from September to March each academic year, will see all the students given a certificate.
They will also be offered the opportunity to sit a business exam through Strathclyde University.
