Newcastle students win big at Santander and Young Enterprise competition
Students from Newcastle University Business School were named Runners Up for the Santander Best Overall Start Up Company 2013 Award at the national final.
Solo impressed the panel of judges with their company, providing sportswear to the pole fitness market. The company showed strong market knowledge of the sport, which is growing in popularity and under consideration for inclusion in the 2016 Olympics.
The team beat off stiff competition from nine other start-up companies from universities across the UK to be named Runners Up for the top award.
Marketing and Management student Harriet Skinner from team Solo said:
“The day was fantastic, it was great to be surrounded by so many ambitious people and we were very pleased to have such good feedback. It is not easy to explain a business with such negative preconceptions in a limited time, but the team did very well.
