Menai students’ success at Young Enterprise event
For the second time in two years, a group of young students from the Independent Living Skills (ILS) department at Coleg Menai have just swept the board at a Young Enterprise event, convincingly securing their place in the all-Wales finals.
Criw Create were thrilled to walk away with five awards at the prestigious North West and North East Wales Team & Company Final, held at Rhyl Pavilion recently, which put them firmly on course for the Wales Innovation Awards, being held at The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport on June 19.
The youngsters have worked hard to develop their business, learning from past mistakes and taking advice from professionals, such as business mentor Jackie Southworth of Sovrin Training. Holding weekly meetings to ensure that every team member is up-to-date with the company’s aims and objectives, they have attended a variety of Trade Fairs and events in order to promote their products, which vary from preserves and chutneys to Easter and Christmas cards.
Link teacher Helen Parry commented: “It has been an extremely busy year, and all the students have worked really well together. They’ve learned so many new skills and have built up their confidence – it’s been wonderful to watch their development. We’re all very much looking forward to the finals, and hope to be successful there!”
Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading business and enterprise education charity reaching over 250,000 young people every year with the support of over 3,500 businesses.
