WITH fans including David Beckham, Cara Delevingne and Chloe Moretz, you’d never guess that cult new headwear brand Commando started life as a Young Enterprise scheme at an all-girls boarding school a mere matter of months ago. The brainchild of nine schoolgirls who attend Downe House school in Berkshire, the £10 beanies have since been spotted on some of the most famous heads around.

David Beckham and Cara Delevingne help pupils get ahead in beanie business


A range of hats created by public schoolgirls in their common room has won the approval of David Beckham.

The beanies have also caught the eye of supermodel Cara Delevingne, who tweeted about them and asked for one.

The Commando range was designed by nine teenage pupils at Downe House, the £30,000-a-year girls’ boarding school.

The Standard can reveal that one of the beanies was bought by football manager Carlo Ancelotti for Beckham from the club Paris St Germain. Besides a grey one for Beckham he also bought a black version for himself.

On June 17, Beckham posted a photo of himself arriving in China sporting the beanie, with the label discreetly out of view — Beckham receives millions of pounds in sponsorship deals.

In an email to the girls, Ancelotti wrote: “I can confirm that David Beckham was giving [sic] a Commando beanie by myself.”

In November last year, Delevingne retweeted a tweet from the enterprising teenagers offering her a free black or grey hat, adding: “Grey please!”
