Stone whizzkids in national final
A STONE school’s winning streak has continued in the Young Enterprise stakes after a team of young businesspeople made it to the national finals.
Equipo is the third Alleyne’s High School team to win the Young Enterprise county finals in as many years.
And this month it became the second Alleyne’s team to win the West Midlands Young Enterprise Company of the Year title in three years – following on from 2011 team Versaleaf, who created and sold an eco-friendly shopping bag.
Equipo have been marketing personalised headphone tidies, known as the Ear Buddy, to help headphone users keep their cords tangle-free.
James Lowe, managing director of Equipo, said: “We are delighted to be named as winners as we had been preparing very hard for the competition. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved.
“The plan for the future of Equipo is to keep expanding and to use all the potential we have to build our company and hopefully go global with our business. The team were part of Young Enterprise’s flagship Company Programme, which sees students set up and run real businesses with the support of business mentors.”
They fought off competition from six other teams from across the region to land a place in the Young Enterprise UK final on July 1 in London.
