Teabox in European Success


Teabox comes in as second runners up in European Start-Up final

‘The Tebox Company’ from Liverpool John Moores University have taken 2nd runners-up spot in the prestigious European Enterprise Challenege 2013.

It is a great achievement by the team which impressed judges with their online tea business offering a range of the world’s finest brews that can be mailed directly to customers. The venture, which earlier this year was also named as the Young Enterprise UK Start Up company of the year, has  already expanded to supply six bars and restaurants.

Teabox’s triumph took place in Liege, Belgium over the 3rd-5th July. Two students; Philip Perera and Harriett Richmond were also selected to becomeEuropean Junior Achievement and Young Enterprise Start Up Alumni Ambassadors for the Start Up Programme.

On 3 and 4 July, 85 students, from higher education, coming from 14 European countries, showed that they were able to go beyond these limits, with motivation and enthusiasm, and to fight against the crisis ofemployment. Junior Achievement – Young Enterprise (JA-YE) Europe Enterprise Challenge 2013 is a two-day competition, which took place in Liège (Belgium) for the first time.

Twenty-one teams formed by these 85 young people wanted to face the same challenge: to be recognized as theCompany of the Year 2013.

Competitors, trained in entrepreneurship via the Start-Up Programme at their university or college, receivedduring these months of learning (learning by doing) the support of their teachers and the advice of mentors in the world of business. Each group has developed a real product or service and successfully completed the challenges of implementation and management of a company.

The winner of the edition 2013 of the Challenge was announced at the Awards Ceremony on July 4 evening :JUKEBOSS (France). They won 5.000 EUR. Their project : an application that enables people attending a dance, an event, to choose, by a voting system, a song so the DJ can adapt his playing list to the public choice.

Business projects covering different areas, from the mobile application support writing for autistic children to decorative items. For example, HIVE (Flanders), winner of the Hyundai award, has created an indoor garden in the form of superimposed transparent cells ( “

According to Hyundai, our project was convincing by its ” green and clever” design”, expresses David Lehembre a team member. “The price will allow us to start for real.” As for his overall impression of the challenge, the young entrepreneur respondsenthusiastically: “This is the first time I participated in an entrepreneurial two days event. It’s great to meet other teams in this kind of work environment. This is an opportunity to meet motivated people who give lots oftips and eventually these exchanges allow you to go further in the competition, improving the project.

“It’s truly rejuvenating amidst such turbulent times to see the devoted efforts of young people who unleash their entrepreneurial potential and show the way out of the crisis for Europe itself,” said Caroline Jenner, CEO of JA-YE Europe.

In addition to the price of the Company of the Year, other awards were distributed. Here follow the results :
