Under the guidance of marketing manager, Julie Shaw, one team of young female entrepreneurs is specialising in alphabet-themed goods and have chosen the team name ‘Zimu’ which is the Mandarin pronunciation of alphabet.

Julie says: “We are delighted to be supporting the Enterprise Awards Challenge, which inspires young people to be successful in their future careers. It is a pleasure to be mentoring Zimu who are so enthusiastic and full of great ideas for innovative products.”

The aim of the annual Enterprise Challenge is to encourage entrepreneurial behaviour in young people across the UK. The students are tasked with making and selling real products to real people to experience the challenges of running a small business from the boardroom to the frontline.

Julie adds: “The girls are eager to gain retail experience and are already learning about how to adapt their products to suit the customer. They have one trade fair under their belt where they learnt a lot about what sells, how to market their goods and attract customers. For the next big trade fair they need to show how they’ve improved from their first one, so I’m looking forward to seeing how they perform when they bring their product to market again.”

Zimu are competing against teams from six other schools in the area. The team demonstrating the best business learning will be announced at the Enterprise Awards ceremony in February. There are also several individual awards for outstanding performance.
