Budding young entrepreneurs in Mansfield show off their business talent
“One of the most successful events we have ever held.”
Budding young entrepreneurs of the future showed their head for commerce when they fought it out in a battle of business.
Southwell’s Minster School team ‘Zeus’ were eventually named the Sherwood Area Board of the Young Enterprise ‘Company of the Year’ Awards held at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, Mansfield.
They took on teams from The Samworth Church Academy, Meden School and All Saints’ RC School to devise, market and create a new business idea or product.
The triumphant Zeus team, which also won honours for ‘Best Report’, ‘Innovation’, and ‘Marketing’, came up with an innovative mobile phone case that lights up when a message or alert comes through.
The team were supported by their Link teacher Clare McKeever-Williams with business advice from their Business Advisor, Brian Hill of Experian.
The Samworth Church Academy team ‘Reforme’ from Mansfield were the Runners-Up in the Best Company category and also won the ‘Health & Safety’ and ‘Trade Fair’ awards.
‘Zeus’ and ‘Reforme’ now go on to represent Sherwood Area at the County Finals on 30th April at Nottingham University.
It is then hoped that one of the two teams will go on to the East Midlands Regional Final in mid-June and from there reach the UK Final in early July.
Paul Davies, Chair of Sherwood Area YE Board described the event as “One of the most successful we have ever held.”
Lewis Stringer from Sherwood Area Board, in his summary of all the teams, said “The judges were extremely impressed by the high standard of all the companies taking part in Young Enterprise this year.
“The Achievers are to be commended on the way that they presented their businesses, researched their markets and sold their products.
“We were also delighted to award ‘Zeus’ and ‘Reforme’ with the honour of representing Sherwood Area in the Nottinghamshire Final in April. We wish them every success.”
A special award in memory of Debbie Bestwick was awarded to Simon Revill and East Midlands Designer Centre for the tremendous support the Sherwood Area Board and YE receive from them.
