Asda joins Young Enterprise for Global Entrepreneurship Week 2014
Schools from across the UK are taking part in Global Entrepreneurship Week with enterprise and financial education charity Young Enterprise, and retailer Asda, to help find the next generation of Alan Sugars and encourage students to develop key skills in the process.
The event starts on Monday 17th November and will see youngsters between the ages of 14 and 19 visit Asda stores in the region to take part in business challenges as part of Young Enterprise’s flagship Company Programme.
Asda has partnered with Young Enterprise to offer students this unique opportunity to sell, promote their products and interact with senior staff and the public in their stores. The best teams from the area will compete in the regional finals next year.
The aim of the partnership is to encourage the young people to further develop key skills such as communication, resilience and team work, improve their confidence and gain business skills as they interact and learn from those already in work.
Tim Scott, Asda Senior Community Life Co-ordinator, said: “It’s fantastic to have children from across the UK taking part in Global Entrepreneurship Week.
“This is our second year partnering with Young Enterprise to offer students this opportunity, and we’re looking forward to launching this year’s activities.”
Michael Mercieca, chief executive of Young Enterprise said: “This is a great opportunity given by Asda for our Company Programme students to promote their products in stores during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Interacting with the public in their communities on a large scale and with senior Asda managers is a great way for our students to get valuable experience from Asda staff and to learn how to sell and interact with the public.
“We know from last year that our young people really enjoy this, developing their business and employability skills during the process. I look forward to hearing about further experiences and lessons learned this year.”
During the week the students will promote their products in the store foyer and meet members of the public and Asda colleagues – hopefully even persuading some to sign up and volunteer to help them.
