All students selling their products are taking part in Young Enterprise’s flagship Company Programme in North Hampshire Aimed at students aged between 15 and 19, the programme gives them the chance to set up and run their own company for a year, under the guidance of a skilled volunteer business mentor.  The students elect a board of directors from amongst their peers, raise share capital and market a product or service that they create.

A panel of expert judges was on hand (Councillor Nigel Pierce, Dan Pine Sainsbury’s General Manager and Sue Harris The Mall Management Team) and they inspected the stalls and interviewed the teams, providing invaluable feedback to help the students increase their sales.

Maria Miller MP for Basingstoke presented the award for Best Trade Stand, which was won by Amico from The Hurst Community College, Tadley, and the runners up award went to Avant Garde from The Costello School, Basingstoke

(Other student companies present included Cranbourne Business & Enterprise College, Testbourne School, Salesian College, Court Moor School and4 teams from BCoT )

“The Company Programme scheme is designed to give students an insight into business and inspire them to ‘learn by doing’.  The challenge introduces a greater understanding of business and commerce as well as focusing on the development of personal skills.  All the students had an enjoyable day, they learnt the best way to approach customers, how to display and promote their products and all left with good levels of sales achieved” says Tina Braithwaite, Young Enterprise Manager.
