Billionaire Chris Dawson makes amazing offer to teenage entrepreneurs
Billionaire businessman Chris Dawson has given Plymouth’s brightest teenage entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their product direct to his top buyers.
The retail magnate made the astounding offer when he presented the Young Enterprise trophy to the Devonport High School for Girls team in front of parents, teachers and business bosses at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel.
The girls, all aged about 17, had formed a company called Iridescent and invented a water bottle for runners called Hyduration.
And as well as walking away with an impressive trophy the team also got the opportunity to have the bottles, calibrated to show runners how much H2O they need to drink on a run, stocked in up to 130 The Range stores.
But first they will have to impress Mr Dawson’s buyers at his Estover HQ, and in the spirit of the contest, a test of young business people’s mettle, Iridescent will be treated like any other company.
“I’m going to put them in front of my buyers,” said Mr Dawson. “They will have to go through the same rigorous process. But I will make sure they get an audience – and I might just turn up.”
Mr Dawson also praised the team’s enthusiasm and said: “I think they are great.”
