Boston and South Holland Area Finals
Students from The Haven High Academy in Boston have scooped 2 awards at the Young Enterprise Boston and South Holland Area finals in Spalding on Tuesday 19 March 2013.
The company called “sECOnd hand” perfected a unique watch design using recycled clothing. By cutting second hand fabric into strips and hand sewing them, watch straps were created that tie together, rather than the more traditional fastening.
From the beginning the team were interested in “up-cycling” used raw materials and once watches were agreed as the product, the name sECOnd hand represented both the product and the company’s ethos.
The Company were supported by a business advisor, Peter Bateson CEO of Witham Fourth IDB in Boston and teachers Miss King and Mr Kemp.
At the Area Final, the pupils set up a trade stand (above) and made a short presentation. They were delighted to have been recognised for both the Environmental Award and the Innovation Award.
Kirsty Overton (Operations Director) said “Young Enterprise has taught me a lot, I’m glad that I took part in this opportunity to learn the skills that I have learnt. It’s been a good adventure.”
Megan Anthony (Finance Director) said “It’s really great that all of our hard work has paid off, we’ve worked so hard on our product and we didn’t expect the awards we achieved. We think our watches could go far in the future.”
