Calypso was the business
STRUTTING teenagers from a Waltham school set their sights high when they put two feet first into the business world in April 1990.
The 12 sixth formers from Waltham Toll Bar were wallowing in the sweet smell of success after making profits from their business set up under the Young Enterprise Scheme.
The A-level students, aged between 16 and 18, had a healthy bank account after setting up Calypso.
The company – which designed, manufactured and sold accessories – rounded off a successful first six months with a fashion show at Grimsby Town Hall complete with outfits from several area shops and boutiques.
And the evening, introduced by the Mayor of Grimsby, David Currie, was a sparkling success with more than £400 profit made before expenses.
