Competition is heating up for the north London final

Apprentice finalist Kate Walsh will be putting Young Enterprise students through their paces as she joins the judging panel at this year’s North London Company Programme Celebration Event Final on May 1st at the global HQ of Pentland Brands plc in Finchley.

The final, which is a Celebration Event, will see regional finalists from Copthall School, Henrietta Barnett School, JCoSS, Greig City Academy, Kingsmead School, Highgate School and Latymer School battling it out to win the prestigious Best Company Award and go through to the London Final on 19th June at Old Mutual.

The event will be attended by more than 100 guests, and is supported by Pentland Group PLC, Deutsche Bank, BKL Human Resources, Maynard Malone, ZICO Coconut Water and Ben & Jerry’s.

The rest of the judging panel will be made of business people including Jen Wrigley, People Development Partner and Shen Gan, Strategic Sales Analyst, Lacoste of Pentland Brands PLC; Tony Parente, Coca-Cola Europe New Ventures; Ameet Chandarana, Maynard Malone and Norma Morris, Curwens.

The awards to be won are Best Overall Company, Best Report, Best Presentation, Best Display Stand and two new awards for Best Use of IT and Social Media and Best Product/Service.

Young Enterprise’s flagship Company Programme runs for an academic year, and allows students to get practical experience of running a business under the guidance of business volunteers. The students raise the initial share capital, nominate roles within their company and market and sell their product.

Company Programme alumni include entrepreneurs such as WorldPay creator Nick Ogden and MPs such as David Lammy, corporate executives and public figures.

Michael Tang of Deutsche Bank and North London board member said: “The regional final provides an opportunity for the students of North London to showcase their products and their talents.”

The competition culminates in the National Final on July 1st, with the winner going on to represent the UK in the JA-YE Europe Company of the Year competition on July 17th.
