Shop local and support small businesses will be the message this weekend in Corby when the town supports the UK’s first ever Small Business Saturday.

Corby Council, town centre owners Helical Bar, Young Enterprise, RS Components, Electric Corby, the town’s enterprise centre, The Prince’s Trust and Enterprise4Corby will be setting up in Queens Square on Saturday (December 7) to showcase some of what the borough’s smaller businesses have to offer.

Pop up market stalls will be offering shoppers unique goods from shabby chic furniture to handcrafted gifts and there will be the chance to win an electronic tablet donated by RS Components, a £100 voucher to spend at one of the stalls, donated by Corby town centre owners, or £100 off your next electricity bill, courtesy of Electric Corby.

Leader of Corby Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “The town has a great mix of shops in the town centre, as well as the smaller, independent businesses like those in the Old Village. Saturday is all about celebrating this mix and reminding people to shop local this Christmas.”

As well as celebrating Small Business Saturday, a new business initiative will be launched to support start-up, existing and relocating businesses in Corby.

Young Enterprise Teams will include Naked No More from Brooke Weston Academy, selling handmade jewellery, and Signature from Corby Business Academy, offering personalised face cloths made to order.
