Councillor’s boost for Stortford’s Young Enterprise programme
"The programme will make a real difference to students"
Bishop’s Stortford’s Young Enterprise programme is to be boosted thanks to funding from Hertfordshire County Council’s locality budget scheme.
Cllr Colin Woodward, (Bishops Stortford West) has allocated £500 from his budget to help fund Young Enterprise staff and local business volunteers, working with students at St Mary’s Catholic and Birchwood High schools to develop key skills not learnt in the classroom.
Young Enterprise is an educational charity working across the UK to help young people develop the skills and attitudes they will need in the work place.
In Hertfordshire last year they worked with over 7,000 young people.
Cllr Woodward said: “The programme will make a real difference to students by developing their ability to plan, implement and promote a project, play their part in a team, as well as raising their awareness of job opportunities and widening career aspirations.”
Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire.
