GE Measurement and Sensing in Groby, Leicestershire host Young Enterprise Event

On the 25th February 2015, GE Measurement and Sensing, Groby, welcomed Young Enterprise (YE) companies from 4 local schools, along with representatives from the local YE board to the site for the annual GE Young Enterprise presentation afternoon. Due to the ongoing refurbishment work in Unit A, the event started in the Groby Ex-Serviceman’s Club with an introduction to GE and the site, followed by some training for the upcoming competition by Tina Smith (Leicestershire YE representative).

The students were then given presentations on Product Management from Francesca Pozzani, and how we drive innovation in Technology from Dafne Sanchez and really got to see how what they are doing in their companies translates to large organisations. The students then had the opportunity to present their progress so far and it was impressive to see both the innovation and enthusiasm they displayed, alongside how they have approached the challenges they have faced!

The students then got a site tour, supported by their GE business advisors (who support each week at the schools) before finally receiving very useful feedback on their presentations from Ian Verso – excellent preparation for the competition! This was the first time a lot of the students have ever presented in public, and it was clear they really benefitted from the experience.

All in all it was a fantastic afternoon and a good demonstration of how GE Groby and Young Enterprise are continuing to strengthen their relationship, with 8 business advisors in 2014/15, alongside support for the county final in May. Huge thank you to everyone who helped with the event, especially Pauline Elliott who really helped pull all the logistics together (especially managing an 11th hour venue change)!

Feedback from the day:

“We really enjoyed the opportunity to perform in front of other groups today. We also appreciated how we were able to have a tour of GE and the facilities that they had. It was a great experience to see how other groups are coming along,”

“Thanks for today, I really enjoyed it and I’m glad I went – the GE presentations were really interesting!”

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for putting on yesterday’s event… The tour was excellent and I am sure they will all take something away from the day. Thank you for the support that you all provide, it is invaluable to our young people.” – Tina Smith, YE Leicestershire
