LIFE AFTER RESULTS DAY

It’s a pretty unsettling and uncertain time at the moment, especially for students in Year 11 and Year 13. To support students and educators during this challenging time, we’ve developed the Life After Results Day resource page. On this page, you’ll find a number of recorded webinars from a range of speakers as well as a series of motivational vlogs. There’s also further support and information on next steps after GCSE and A-Level exams. Whether or not students have decided on their next steps or if they’re just starting to consider what their futures might look like, we’re here to support them on their journey!

Each webinar runs for just 30 minutes, during this time you’ll hear from a variety of inspirational speakers who share their stories of life after results day and how they came to be where they are today. They also provide valuable advice on how to make the most of your results, whatever they may be. At the end of each webinar, there’s a Q&A session, where speakers and Young Enterprise hosts answer key questions about results and next steps.

If you’re a student, these webinars will be a great source of advice and inspiration for your years ahead and if you’re a teacher, these webinars will offer you a valuable tool to get your young people talking about next steps after exams and the role mindset plays in succeeding in the future.

Alana Spencer

Alana was the winner of the Apprentice in 2016. She now owns a bakery in Wales.

In this video she shares her motivational story and talks about success and how to overcome failures.

Jai Shah

Jai Shah is a Chemical Engineering Student at the University of Edinburgh. To access his course he chose to go through clearing. In this video he talks about why clearing was such a great option for him and the different opportunities clearing led to.

Jenny Mullinder

Jenny is a Customer Service Executive at Paperchase UK.

In this video, she explains how being a young carer for her mum, impacted her results day experience and how choosing a university course through clearing led to opportunities she could never have expected.

Consolata is Transformation Programmes Officer at Imperial College London.

She talks about how she came through a number of challenges to find her current role. She also shares tips on the key skills needed to work in project management.

Jess Kelly

Jess is a 3rd year student at the University of Chester studying Global Entrepreneurship and Business Management. She’s currently on a work placement at Crest Medical, as an NHS Marketing and Sales Assistant. She talks about what this job entails and the skills needed. She also shares her memories of results day and the challenges she experienced during exams due to Epilepsy.

Next Steps After GCSE: 16+

Sixth Form / College

Further Education and Higher Education Colleges and School Sixth Forms offer a wide range of courses in
numerous subjects, many of which can provide a route to University studies, providing qualifications such as A-levels, BTEC, Advanced Diplomas and Foundation Degrees.

If you have an idea of the course you would like to study at University it is wise to check the entry requirements to help you understand the qualifications you will need. You can do this through UCAS: www.ucas.com

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships provide opportunity to study for qualifications while gaining paid working experience and new skills for ages 16 years or over. After completing an apprenticeship you can continue with another qualification or develop within your role.

Start Your Own Business

Starting a business can be challenging and there are many elements you need to consider, but there is plenty of support to encourage you to start small and gauge if this is the path for you. Although you must be in some sort of education or training until you are 18, you can start developing your idea or business part-time before that.

Traineeships

Traineeships provide the crucial skills to prepare you for apprenticeships if you require further qualifications from your GCSE’s and/or potential future employment through short training courses with work experience.

Tip: If your aim is to find employment once you have completed your traineeship, look for employer led traineeships as they can lead to potential job offers!

Universities offer a range of courses to suit different interests and ambitions. Thinking about how you might use your degree in the future might help you decide on the right course, as well as a suitable location and university for you.
