Old Mutual Wealth
They may be called Old Mutual Wealth but they have got their eyes on the future of young people
Old Mutual Wealth is one of Young Enterprise’s most valued supporters.
Old Mutual Wealth is one of the UK’s largest wealth management businesses and part of Old Mutual plc, a FTSE 100 group that provides life assurance, asset management, banking and general insurance. It is trusted by more than 18 million customers across the world to manage over £327 billion of their money. With over 64,000 employees, Old Mutual Wealth operates in a very diverse range of communities internationally and it is noted for its commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen.
Old Mutual has been supporting Young Enterprise since 2010 providing financial support towards our programmes designed to boost the financial literacy and employability skills of young people aged between 16-24 years and prepare them for the world of work so that they reach their full potential. So far, the partnership has reached over 9,000 young people.
Your Horizon Programme
In 2014 Old Mutual Wealth began a new partnership with YE, co-developing Your Horizon, a year long programme for 17-24 year olds in their final year from Further Education colleges in London and Southampton. It is aimed to help young people to:
- Build skills and character and increase confidence and aspirations for the future
- Prepare for the world of work with support to ensure they reach their full potential
- Increase their chances of making a successful and sustained transition into the next stage of their career.
Young people participate in workshops focused on building employment skills and also get experience of setting up and running their own businesses. By the end of the programme participants can reflect on how they used those all important employability skills and how they can put them to use in the future to make successful transitions into employment, training or onto additional education.
The partnership gives volunteers from Old Mutual Wealth the hugely fulfilling task of sharing with young people an insight into their careers and the skills which are valued in the workplace
Thanks to Old Mutual Wealth, young people from Further Education colleges in London and Southampton are going out into the world of work with a really good understanding of what skills employers are looking for and with the ability to model these skills as a result of taking part in the Your Horizon Programme.
The company has hosted groups of students at their offices in London and Southampton.
“Our support for Young Enterprise is about making a real and sustainable difference to young people’s lives. It is in our interest to build a stronger society by giving young people life skills that will help them build a positive future” said Jane Goodland, Responsible Business Director.
The programme also works with vulnerable young people by engaging them in small business workshops over 3-5 days. This helps to build their confidence and aspirations with respect to employment and enterprise.
