Teabox Leaders for a Day

Harriet Richmond and Philip Perera from The Teabox Company

The winners of the Best Overall Start Up Company Award 2013 were selected to represent the UK at the European Commission’s Leaders for a Day event in Brussels.

The Teabox Company from Liverpool John Moores University won the UK Start Up final and represented the UK at the JA-YE Europe final, where they won the Leadership Alumni Award.

The company’s Harriet Richmond and Philip Perera spent two days in Brussels shadowing high profile executives from global corporations as well as EU decision makers.

In total 30 students from across Europe attended Leaders for a Day, organised by JA-YE Europe in partnership with Microsoft and Accenture.

The EC’s Vice President Neelie Kroes inspired students with a keynote address addressing the importance of e-leadership and web entrepreneurship to boost economic growth in Europe.

Caroline Jenner, CEO JA-YE Europe: “This initiative is a great opportunity for young people preparing to enter the labour market to understand what social, ICT and entrepreneurial skills are necessary to succeed at work. Such skills are not easily taught at school, but they are crucial to obtain a job and grow as a professional in the modern work environment”.

Philip Perera commented: “This was a fantastic chance for Harriet and me to meet key European decision-makers and work alongside them for a day.  We also got to network with some influential people from across the European Union and are very grateful to JA-YE Europe for providing us with the opportunity to attend and were proud to act as ambassadors for the UK and LJMU.”
