Student gurus show business enterprise
THE efforts of 80 budding Cornish business gurus have been celebrated in the first stage of a national Young Enterprise competition.
Students from nine secondary schools took part in the charity’s Cornwall area finals at Newquay’s Atlantic Hotel on Thursday after participating in a Young Enterprise scheme to set up and run their own businesses for a year with the help of mentors.
After a grilling by judges it was students from GEMS Bolitho in Penzance who scooped the coveted top prize of ‘Best Company’, for their business Tideline which had produced a children’s storybook based around a character called Colin the Crab.
More than 300 14 to 18-year-olds in schools across Cornwall set up a total of 22 businesses with help from local business volunteers.
