University of Liverpool Start-Up Trade Fair Won By Retro & Nouveau
The University of Liverpool Start Up Trade Fair took place on Monday 22nd April at the university’s Management School, sponsored by DWF and Plexus Cotton.
There were 24 teams from the Russell Group university competing for the title of Most Entrepreneurial Team, which was won by Retro & Nouveau.
Their initial idea was to paint photo frames matt black, enabling purchasers to chalk their own design or name on the frame. This developed into painting the base of wine glasses matt black.
Later on the team added rings made from scrabble pieces to their portfolio, which was their most labour intensive product. However they still managed to achieve a gross profit margin of at least 300%.
The team overcame issues when product sourcing for their photo frames and production problems when applying matt black paint to wine glasses to win.
Andrew Firr, Young Enterprise Manager for Start Up said: “Retro & Nouveau were determined to achieve success with their original idea by applying much effort and enthusiasm.”
