Westfield schoolgirls hit international markets

A Newcastle school’s enterprise project has taken an international flavour as it bids to be judged the best in the North East.

Pupils from Westfield School for Girls are embarking on their Young Enterprise project with a global outlook, with products from their company, DipIt, having now reached as far afield as Spain, India and Cambodia.

The independent school for girls in Gosforth has a rich history in the competition, having successfully made it through to the regional finals in each of the last three years and the national finals in 2012.

This year, the students have created DipIt, a company producing a range of different dip dye and tie dye products, including t-shirts, scarves, and children’s clothing, including baby grows and young children’s party wear.

The scheme has already won them a place in the regional finals, which will take place on June 18th, having already been named this area’s best trade stand and best overall company by the Young Enterprise organisation.

Westfield pupil Sarah Makepeace, aged 17, is managing director of DipIt. She said: “Westfield has a proud tradition in this competition, so we’re doing all we can to explore all potential sales avenues for our DipIt products and maintain the attainment levels of those who have done so well previously.
