Fiver Challenge

Fiver is Young Enterprise’s FREE national challenge for 5-11 year olds.

The Fiver Challenge provides a highly interactive, fun way of introducing financial literacy, resilience and teamwork to primary school pupils. Pupils have 1 month to set up a mini business and create a product or service they can then sell or deliver at a profit and engage with their local community.

The benefits of signing up

Fiver offers an excellent introduction to enterprise learning and behaviours, providing an opportunity for pupils to develop character and key skills, important for living in modern Britain.

  • Provides opportunities for pupils to engage with their local community
  • Helps to instil resilience from a young age by challenging pupils to work outside their normal parameters
  • Provides the foundations for pupils to develop core skills including team work, problem solving and creativity
  • Introduces pupils to managing money and budgeting » Helps pupils explore the world of work and establish positive behaviours with money
  • Includes a national competition which everyone can enter – prizes include a trip to London for the awards ceremony

How it works

  1. We give you five pounds. Each pupil registered is pledged £5 from the Fiver Bank
  2. Get it going. Pupils use this start-up capital to get their enterprise off the ground, working alone or in a group
  3. Keep it going. Pupils have the whole month to make as much profit as they can from their fiver whilst also aiming to engage with their local community
  4. Payback…for the future. At the end of the month, participants repay their initial £5 pledge plus a suggested 50p legacy donation to enable Young Enterprise to support even more young people next year
  5. Keep the profit. Pupils are in full control of the profits they earn and get to decide what to spend them on
