And the West Briton reported:
Since October, pupils from Plymouth schools involved in the Young Enterprise company programme have set up real businesses.
Directors have been elected and share capital has been raised to finance the task of sourcing or manufacturing goods in preparation for the trade fair, the first event in the YE calendar.
Organisers said an ‘interesting assortment’ of products were available for sale at the event, ranging from handmade Christmas tree clocks, luminous child safety packs and personalised boxer shorts to T-shirts, jewellery and decorations.
The winner of the Christmas Trade Fair will be announced at the Young Enterprise annual awards ceremony on April 30.
Event spokesman Nicky Puckey said: “Teams were adjudicated throughout the event by members of Young Enterprise in Plymouth, chaired by Joan Melville.
“Judges were looking for eye-catching stall displays, as well as marketing, the quality of products and innovation, financial handling and customer service.
“Customers were drawn in by some very enthusiastic and effective sales techniques, crucial in this economic climate.
“It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and dedication of these young people, who have worked extremely hard in such a short space of time to get ready for this event.
“Students will be running their companies until June next year, when hopefully they will liquidate having made a healthy profit in addition to the huge wealth of experience they will have gained.”
