Young Enterprise runs Financial Masterclass with NYSE Euronext
On 30th April 2013 enterprise education charity Young Enterprise, in collaboration with NYSE Euronext, parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, ran a Financial Masterclass for students from five schools and colleges.
NYSE Euronext provided ten volunteers for the Masterclass, which covered life maps, an introduction to financial services, job creation and brainstorming, and an employment matchmaking exercise.
Attending schools were Buckingham College School, Featherstone High School, Northumberland Park Community, Connaught School for Girls and Newman Catholic College.
Student Lawrence Abel, from Newman Catholic College said: “I found the Masterclass very interesting. During the interview sessions I learnt that it’s not only GCSEs that are important, but also transferable skills. It was good to learn how interviews work. I would definitely do something similar again.”
Geno Luchmun, Head of Legal of NYSE in the UK, said: “I really enjoyed the day – the feedback from the students, their teachers and the NYSE Euronext volunteers suggests it was a very informative and positive experience for all the participants.
“The students were engaged and asking lots of questions. Today they experienced a different environment and despite being out of their comfort zone, they were confident and excelled in the Masterclass exercises.
“For many children who are uncertain about which career they want to pursue, the Young Enterprise Financial Masterclass provides them with an opportunity to experience a commercial environment and to meet and speak to volunteers working in a variety of professions and disciplines.”
