The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment Future Foundation (“The Foundation”) is a registered charity with the following objective:

“The advancement of education for the public benefit by advancing knowledge and improving skills in financial capacities and capabilities, in particular but not exclusively through the provision of grants and promotion of research and dissemination of such research”.

The Foundation was initially funded by a generous donation of £2.5m from The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (“The Institute”), a charitable not-for-profit education and awarding body with head quarters in London. The Foundation gives grants to existing organisations, both in the UK and internationally, to work with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, on programmes or initiatives which align with the Foundation’s objective of increasing financial literacy. The Foundation can also offer relevant organisations the opportunity to work with finance professionals through its contacts at The Institute.

During 2022 The Foundation focused its efforts on establishing a full board of Trustees, and creating its structured governance procedures and policies, before it was granted charitable status in late 2022.

This year, in 2023, The Foundation has completed its first round of awarding grants to a number of organisations in the UK delivering financial literacy training and education, including Young Money, part of Young Enterprise, and MyBnk.

The Foundation is also currently assessing its first round of international grant applications.

The next application window for UK grant applications will open on Monday 6th November 2023, closing on Friday 12th January 2024. The criteria for Foundation grants include:

  • Operate as a not-for-profit organisation or a registered charity.
  • Able to submit two sets of independently verified accounts and/or provide evidence of good governance, financial probity and strong internal control.
  • Demonstrate expertise and experience in the area of financial literacy.
  • Actively support the development of financial literacy, working particularly with younger people and groups which face demonstrable socio-economic challenges.
  • Operate either nationally or locally within the UK and Crown Dependencies
  • Articulate future plans with a long-lasting and sustainable impact of at least five years.
  • Clearly define its target beneficiaries and stakeholders and present credible project plans, outcome appraisal methodologies and financial forecasts.
  • Have a defined Safeguarding Policy and have the requisite governance arrangements likely to ensure the rigorous application of that policy on a continuing basis.
