Inspiring the Next Generation: Adam Schwalm

For Adam Schwalm, owner of owner of Templers Safety and Security Ltd, volunteering with Young Enterprise (YE) has been a rewarding way to share his experience and inspire young people.

“I’ve wanted to do something to impart the knowledge and skills I’ve accrued over the years,” Adam explains. “If I’d had this kind of opportunity when I was younger, it might have changed my career direction!”

After being introduced to YE at a Bedford Chamber of Commerce meeting, Adam began volunteering just over a year ago. Since then, he’s supported schools, judged YE Trade Fairs and Finals, and taken part in supporting our Employment Masterclasses, bringing real-world business experience into the classroom.

“What I’ve enjoyed most is seeing the commitment and enthusiasm the students have for their ideas,” Adam says. “They really listened and took on board feedback to improve — it was inspiring.”

Adam’s favourite moments include seeing teams like Food from the Roots and Thrive and Shine stand out with their creativity, professionalism and confidence. “Watching students step out of their comfort zones and really believe in what they’re doing is incredible,” he says.

For Adam, the experience has reinforced one key message he hopes to pass on to every aspiring entrepreneur: Commitment. “Being committed to the process, despite the pitfalls, will get you through the best and worst times.”

And his message to other business professionals? “If I can inspire someone else to take on this great opportunity to give back — or inspire students to take a step they thought they never could — that will be a great reward in itself.”
