Stop Loan Sharks: Lessons in Safer Lending and Borrowing

For secondary schools, the resource includes lessons about safer lending and borrowing that reflect key financial inclusion objectives around when and how to borrow, values around money, saving and what can go wrong if you don’t make the right choice. There are lessons too on credit, shopping around to get the best credit deal and the dangers of borrowing from loan sharks.

The resource provides pupils with advice on the dangers of borrowing money and all the activities are based on real life scenarios s and are designed to be used as a vehicle for exploring a range of issues. Curricula links include: PSHE, Citizenship, English, Mathematics, Drama and more. 

The activities also signpost or allow discovery of possible routes out of difficult financial situations. The
activities are structured in a manner that will enable students to consider and develop their own attitudes to
money. The materials have been created to extend students financial knowledge and understanding so that they are able to make better informed and rational decisions about their own financial needs in the future
