Enterprising Mindsets | Future Female Founders:Unleashing The Potential In Gen Z

Sara Davies MBE, Founder of Crafter’s Campion and Dragons’ Den panelist shared her perspective on helping girls and young women to overcome the barriers to female entrepreneurship to unleash the potential in Gen Z. We also heard from a cross-sector, multi-generational panel featuring voices from education, business and the youth sector. We explored some of the big questions around support for girls and young women in a post Covid world.

Only 1 in 3 UK entrepreneurs is female, and yet the Government’s Rose Review estimates female entrepreneurship could add up to £250bn to the UK economy.

Unleashing the untapped potential of female entrepreneurship in Generation Z is vital to the UK’s economic recovery, especially in light of the pandemic’s disproportionately negative impact on young women.

The challenges faced by girls and young women at the moment are great. But so too is their initiative and creativity to over overcome them. We call this an enterprising mindset.

That’s why we wanted to begin a conversation. Bringing educators, employers, entrepreneurs and YE alumni together in a bid to understand what the barriers look like, how we can work together to support girls and young women to build their futures in this current and future environment.

“We need to instill the idea of entrepreneurship at a young age. If you learn something at a young age, it feels normal – so we’re not trying to change behaviour that’s embedded later on.”

– Sara Davies MBE, Founder of Crafter’s Campion and Dragons’ Den panelist

What can we do to tackle and overcome the barriers to female entrepreneurship to unleash the potential in Gen Z?

This is the question Oli Barrett put to our panel of educators, business leaders, entrepreneurs and YE alumni, as we explored Future Female Founders: Unleashing The Potential In Gen Z. The discussion has provided a powerful start to the conversation. With our brilliant speakers and some 270 virtual attendees, it generated ideas, inspiration and motivation for the future of girls and young women.

This virtual event built on the key insights gained from the Female Founders Enterprising Mindsets podcast series on overcoming the barriers to female entrepreneurship.
