The Money Charity

Helping everyone achieve financial wellbeing

Our Vision is that everyone achieves financial wellbeing by managing their money well. We empower people across the UK to build the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours, to make the most of their money throughout their lives; helping them achieve their goals and live a happier more positive life as a result.

We do this by developing and delivering products and services which provide education, information and advice on money matters for those in the workplace, in our communities, and in education. And through influencing and supporting others to promote financial capability and financial wellbeing, through consultancy, policy, research and media work.

Money Workshops

We deliver our Money Workshops across the UK to 11-19 year olds in a wide range of settings including schools, colleges, community groups, the justice system and via charities. We offer pick and mix modules covering all sorts of topics from budgeting to pensions and credit to reading a pay slip, and lots in between. The workshops can be delivered face to face or virtually, and are interactive and engaging. We can’t wait to start delivering in schools again now that they are re-opening!

We have launched a new Covid & Money module, designed to address concerns young people might have based on what they have heard in the media and from family. The module explores what financial impact of the pandemic might have and be having on young people and those around them, and how to be financially resilient.

Student Money Manual

Our magazine style guide to everything you need to know about money whilst at uni is available online and in hard copy.

Teacher Resource Packs

Our ‘lessons in a box’ contain all the resources and instructions a teacher needs to deliver a financial education lesson without having to do the prep themselves. Packs are available for free to schools, and include topics such as insurance, budgeting, saving, renting, mortgages and credit.

Consultancy services

As experts in delivering engaging and impactful financial education, we help all sorts of organisations develop content, resources and training to enable them to deliver financial education themselves. We work with large corporates, publishers, other charities, and many more to help them to ensure that their products and services are of a high quality.

Workshops for teenage cancer patients

We are delighted that we, in partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust, have been selected by the Money & Pensions Service (MaPS) as part of their Children and Young People Financial Education Innovation Programme to work on an exciting new pilot programme.

This pilot will develop tailored, virtual Workshops for Young People undergoing cancer treatment, and also training for Teenage Cancer Trust  staff to enable them to imbed financial education into their everyday practice.

Some of the key issues we’ve identified with Teenage Cancer Trust as particular financial needs which Young People with cancer face are:

  • They often miss schooling because of their treatment, meaning they therefore miss Financial Education lessons.
  • They have highly specific Financial Education needs because their cancer is likely to affect them financially in the future e.g. through life insurance, travel insurance etc.
  • Cancer has a negative impact on the household’s finances. Families with a child or young person receiving treatment for cancer are, on average, £600 worse off (according to Clic Sargent). Money therefore becomes another worry on top of the actual cancer.

We are looking forward to publishing the results of the evaluation in the summer.
