Seren’s Farm/Fferm Seren

Produced by SARN Associates/David Evans

Minimum Age: 7
Maximum Age: 11

Please note: Hard copy orders are placed in quantities of 60 workbooks per pack.

Starting in 2022, Ysgol Pentrecelyn’s Key Stage 2 collaborated with Young Enterprise to deliver a financial education project that reflected the specific needs and interests of their rural community.  The need for the project arose from the school’s development plan (SDP) following the pandemic, which identified the impact on learners’ numeracy and financial capabilities.

This Primary School Resource (Years 3-6) is the first to be set in Wales as the story of Seren helping her Nain (Grandma) on their family farm is immersed within the context of the farm, the local community and local economy. This workbook covers:

  • Numeracy (arithmetic, fractions, weights, area, volume)
  • Literacy and language skills (reading, comprehension, storytelling, translation)
  • Financial literacy (prices, costs, value for money, bills, budgeting, business acumen).

This workbook is available to be worked on directly, with sums and answers to fill out. This is a bilingual resource, combining English and Welsh versions in a single workbook.

The workbook is available for digital download, or as hard copies, to order in quantities of 60 workbooks per pack. We are unable to dispatch them in smaller quantities.

Teacher training workshop, Tuesday 23rd April 4.00 – 5.30pm at Ysgol Pentrecelyn.

Please join David Evans (SARN Associates) and Andrew Evans, Headteacher at Ysgol Pentrecelyn for an interactive workshop about the Seren’s Farm resource.

Through this unique, bilingual workbook, David and Andrew will support educators to explore how they can make best use of Seren’s Farm with their own learners. The team from Ysgol Pentrecelyn will explain how the workbook was created and what impact educators can expect to see for their young people’s financial education and numeracy skills.

Attendance at the workshop is free of charge. You will be provided with free, printed copies of the workbook for use with your learners.
