St. James’s Place Financial Education Programme:

At St. James’s Place (SJP), we’re committed to supporting the financial wellbeing of future generations. Our financial education (FE) programme is designed to empower young people with practical skills and confidence in managing their money — a goal we pursue through both in-house delivery and strategic partnerships.

In-House Financial Education for Schools
We have developed robust, age-appropriate financial education programmes tailored for both primary and secondary school students. These are delivered through our network of advisers and employee volunteers, who work directly with schools across the UK.

Our secondary school programme includes:

  • Three core modules on saving, budgeting, and bank accounts
  • Two additional modules on staying safe online and preparing for the future (including payslips, tax and the cost of living)
  • The content is externally Quality Marked and reviewed to remain relevant
  • Volunteers and partners regularly report high levels of student engagement and positive feedback from teachers

Key Reach & Impact (2024)

  • 16,600+ young people reached through financial education initiatives (2023: 10,008)
  • 77% of students reported feeling more confident managing money after a workshop (2023: 81%)
  • Delivery takes place across a mix of schools, with a focus on accessibility and inclusion

RedSTART Volunteering
SJP has proudly supported the RedSTART programme for over three years, helping to deliver financial education to primary school children across the UK. Our community of advisers and employees continue to volunteer annually, bringing interactive, age-appropriate lessons into classrooms.

Importantly, part of our funding also supports RedSTART’s longitudinal study — a 10-year research initiative tracking the long-term impact of financial education delivered from an early age. This study is critical in shaping national conversations around when and how financial education should be taught.

Through this work, we contribute not just to today’s learners, but to the future evidence base for effective financial education policy and practice.

Young Enterprise (YE) Partnership
Since 2021, SJP has partnered with Young Enterprise to expand access to financial education for young people in the UK’s most disadvantaged areas. Together, we have:

  • Supported 344 schools in IMD 1–4 areas
  • Delivered 2,700+ lesson plan downloads, reaching an estimated 81,000 students
  • Developed SEND-specific resources, reaching 816+ students with complex needs
  • Funded Centres of Excellence — model schools that demonstrate and share best practice in financial education
  • Supported the transformation of YE’s teacher Advisory Service, now seeing 94% of queries focused on impact and pedagogy

SJP is visibly credited on national teaching resources, including those hosted on MoneySavingExpert, and we continue to support the creation of inclusive, quality-marked learning content.
